Johan Coetzee
Mr. Coetzee is an experienced advisor to the mining and metals sector, with a track record spanning strategic, corporate, and operational roles across the value chain. He specializes in carve-outs, business separations, and the design and implementation of global operating models, supporting the establishment and scaling of independent organizations. He has led complex transformation initiatives, including organizational reconfiguration, stand-up processes, and growth strategy execution, and works closely with boards and executive teams on sustainable growth, portfolio optimization, and capability development.
Mr. Coetzee’s approach combines deep technical expertise with a holistic perspective, incorporating people, culture, governance, and regulatory considerations. With senior leadership experience across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australasia, he advises organizations on strategic decision-making and transformation in complex, rapidly evolving environments.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Coetzee held senior leadership roles at Accenture and dss+, where he focused on strategy, operations, and performance improvement in the mining and natural resources sector. He also spent over a decade with BHP Billiton and held executive roles at South32, leading large-scale operations, sustainability initiatives, and complex capital projects.
Mr. Coetzee earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering (mineral processing) from Stellenbosch University and a master’s degree in business leadership from the University of South Africa. Mr. Coetzee is fluent in Afrikaans and English. He has a working knowledge of Portuguese.
