Emma van Doornik is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Amsterdam. She has more than 15 years of experience in customs, excise, and international trade law. 

Dr. van Doornik advises a wide variety of international clients on complex customs, excise, and international trade–related matters. She helps clients restructure and optimize their supply chains by applying for rulings and setting up customs control frameworks. Dr. van Doornik frequently assists clients with customs audits, internal audits, and legal procedures.

Dr. van Doornik has worked with clients across various industries, including energy and resources, food and beverages, chemicals, transportation and logistics, consumer products, aviation, and e-commerce.

Prior to joining A&M, Dr. van Doornik worked in Loyens & Loeff’s indirect tax team in Amsterdam for over six years. Before that, she spent nine years with Deloitte’s Global Trade Advisory practice in Amsterdam.

Dr. van Doornik earned master’s degrees in tax law and international and European law from the University of Amsterdam, an executive master’s in European studies from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and a PhD in customs law from Maastricht University. She works as an assistant professor in customs law at Maastricht University. In addition, Dr. van Doornik chairs the customs section of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisers (NOB).
