Grant Sparks is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring and Insolvency in Brisbane. He brings 35 years of experience dealing with complex issues across several industries. This experience enables him to effectively manage a range of stakeholders. 

Mr. Sparks’s expertise includes advising on business performance and strategy, serving as a board advisor, implementing restructuring and turnaround initiatives, and guiding arrangements and associated investigations. Notably, he has led some of the most important restructurings in the coal and energy sectors. His assignments in coal and energy include: acting as appointed receiver and manager of Griffin Coal Mining Company, Western Australia; acting as administrator of Cockatoo Coal, an Australian Securities Exchange-listed coal mining group; serving as administrator and liquidator of Linc Energy Ltd, a listed energy producer and explorer with substantial coal, oil, and gas energy assets in Australia and the US; serving as administrator for the IG Group, which owned a 50% interest in the Callide C power station; serving as administrator and liquidator of the Bandanna Energy Group, a listed group with substantial coal assets in the Bowen and Galilee basins; serving as administrator and liquidator of Caledon Coal Group of Companies; and acting as the liquidator of Alcyone Resources Ltd.

Further, Mr. Sparks held a senior role in the restructuring of the Virgin Group during its administration. Liaising with approximately 70 financier and lessor stakeholders, he negotiated the retention of 144 aircraft and return of approximately 70 aircraft within the fleet. He has also served as an advisor to the board of a consolidated professional services group operating in the medical industry and also advised financiers and boards of listed resource companies.

Mr. Sparks earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of South Australia and is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. He is also a fellow of the Australian Restructuring & Insolvency Turnaround Association (ARITA).
