Becky Lai

Ms. Lai specializes in domestic PRC (including Hong Kong) corporate and international tax matters, including cross-border transactions, supply chain realignment, tax treaty eligibility, PRC tax administrative reviews, and resolving tax controversies. She has advised a wide range of industries, including automotive, energy, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, financial services, telecommunications, and offshore oil.
Before joining A&M, Ms. Lai served as the Greater China Tax Leader for International Tax and Tax Policy at EY. Further, Ms. Lai has been instrumental and active in supporting both industry and government on tax policy initiatives, including by serving as the exclusive Technical Consultant to the State Tax Administration (STA) for the G20 Global Forum Peer Review on the PRC tax regime. She led the dialogue between the STA and industry representatives, such as the Capital Market Tax Committee, on the PRC tax treatment for financial products as part of the development of China’s financial market.
Ms. Lai earned a BBA (summa cum laude) from Saint Mary’s University in Canada and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. She completed the China Senior Executive Leadership Program on the business transformation of PRC enterprises for the global economy and its Renewal Program at Harvard Business School.
Ms. Lai is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA), and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). She is also a Chartered Tax Advisor with the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong.
