Ray MacSweeney is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Consumer and Retail in London. He specializes in supporting enterprise-wide transformation—his primary areas of concentration include operating models, commercial strategy and execution, cost optimization, portfolio and range design, and value engineering.

With more than 25 years of experience across industry and consulting, Mr. MacSweeney has led teams driving value creation across clients in consumer health, beauty, household and personal care, food, and online apparel. He works both in and outside deal situations.

Notably, Mr. MacSweeney headed up a program to review and optimize the portfolio complexity and supply chain footprint of a leading high-performance computing business in EMEA. The project identified opportunities to rationalize 37% of plants, and when these recommendations were subsequently implemented, Mr. MacSweeney was able to deliver an 8-percentage point expansion in EBITDA margins over a two-year period.

In retail, one of Mr. MacSweeney’s most significant projects involved creating, implementing, and executing a value creation plan for a large European online clothes retailer, including a review of the then-current performance, followed by a period of implementation. The project led to a £1 billion improvement in free cash flow, with a £50 million working capital improvement and £30 million FTE savings both delivered in the first year.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. MacSweeney spent 14 years with EY-Parthenon in London, where he most recently served as a Partner. In this role, he led major assignments across Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Mr. MacSweeney holds a BE in engineering from University College Dublin and an MBA with distinction from the University of Edinburgh.
