Renan Ozturk is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax, LLP in Dubai. He brings more than 13 years of experience in indirect taxes and is a trusted advisor to a large number of financial institutions and corporate clients across the Middle East.

Mr. Ozturk’s expertise lies in providing indirect tax advisory services, including value-added tax, real estate transaction taxes and excise tax services to large multi-nationals, financial institutions and family groups with operations across the Middle East. He has supported clients across the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman with VAT implementation services, ERP and tax transformation projects, cross border tax advisory, tax structuring and due diligence support, tax audit and litigation support and the effective management of indirect tax compliance obligations.

Mr. Ozturk is one of the longest serving indirect tax advisors in the GCC after relocating to the Middle East region from the Netherlands, where he supported one of the six GCC states on tax policy matters specifically with respect to the roll-out of VAT across the Gulf States under the Unified VAT Framework Agreement for the GCC.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Ozturk spent more than 10 years with Deloitte in Amsterdam and Dubai, where he most recently served as Middle East VAT Financial Services leader for Deloitte Middle East. In this role, he advised the majority of the UAE banking sector on VAT implementation and other advisory matters, in addition to playing an integral role as an advisor to the UAE Banking Federation in its efforts to represent the interest of its members on VAT matters towards the Federal Tax Authority.

Mr. Ozturk earned a bachelor’s degree in tax law and a master’s degree in (indirect) tax law from the University of Leiden. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisors.

The reform was codified by way of the release of Cabinet Decision No. 100 of 2024, which introduced 35 updates to 34 (out of 75) Articles across the Executive Regulations to Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017 on VAT, and came into effect on 15 November 2024.
