Michael Sugrue

Mr. Sugrue advises enterprise and law firm clients in civil and criminal litigation, internal and regulatory investigations, and various cyber matters. He has significant experience advising clients in high-profile litigation matters involving alleged data spoliation and in dozens of so-called “bad leaver” and “bad arriver” investigations relating to theft of trade secrets.
Mr. Sugrue has led engagement teams for some of the largest forensics and e-discovery projects conducted, including dozens of litigation matters for several top five financial institutions relating to the subprime lending crisis. He has also led over 100 projects for one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies and has been engaged by several ultra-high net worth individuals to handle their most sensitive forensic matters.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Sugrue spent seven years at Stroz Friedberg LLC (now Aon Cyber Solutions) where he served as Managing Director, leading a variety of investigation and litigation projects for the firm’s strategic clients. Previously, he served as a member of the executive team at Clutch Group, where he counseled in-house legal teams on leveraging managed/offshore resources and on transitioning to alternative fee arrangements.
Early in his career, Mr. Sugrue practiced law for nearly seven years at Latham & Watkins in New York City and at Goodwin Procter in Boston. He focused on securities litigation and internal and regulatory investigations in which digital forensics and e-discovery were often critical to achieving a successful outcome. Mr. Sugrue led several challenging cross-border investigations and was embedded for months at client offices in Germany and Switzerland.
Mr. Sugrue earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross and a J.D. (magna cum laude), from Seton Hall University School of Law where he was the Business Editor of the Law Review. In 1998-1999, Mr. Sugrue represented the United States as a Fulbright Scholar in Germany. He is admitted to practice law in New York and Massachusetts. Mr. Sugrue is fluent in English and proficient in German.
