Nicholas Schwarzmiller is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring & Turnaround in London. He specializes in cross-border assignments, focusing on complex stakeholder groups across legal jurisdictions and waterfall classes. His main areas of concentration are managing and advising on mature and distressed private equity funds.

Mr. Schwarzmiller has worked with clients across a range of industries, including mining, energy, heavy industry, and alternative asset managers. He has advised the boards of general partners (on behalf of the fund) in terms of managing affairs of the fund in restructuring, operating structure, fund management, portfolio company representation, and disposal strategy, while working with joint venture partners and operating company boards to define operating strategy and value creation.

Mr. Schwarzmiller has also led large-scale US, European, and emerging market projects. His notable assignments include the restructuring of the Abraaj Infrastructure Growth Capital Fund, New World Resources, ASA Resources Group, Avocet Mining, BSG Resources, and numerous private equity and hedge funds.

Notably, Mr. Schwarzmiller served as an advisor to the independent director of the general partner of an infrastructure growth capital fund. He supported strategy and analysis for directorship appointments to multiple investment special purpose entities to oversee the sale strategy and process for the fund’s remaining investments, including a $1.7-billion power station and an oil refinery. He also worked on a structured general partner and limited partner stake sale process with numerous stakeholders; handled forensic investigations into the fund’s history, including fraud allegations; and pursued potential claims against third parties.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Schwarzmiller served as Director with Duff & Phelps’ Global Valuation and Restructuring practices. He advised stakeholders on valuations in the context of transactions and restructurings, such as dividend recapitalizations, leveraged buyouts, or debt enforcement. He also worked with many private equity and hedge funds in value-private, illiquid, and hard-to-value securities such as unlisted equity, private debt (performing and distressed), convertible securities, royalties, off-takes, hybrid securities, and portfolios for periodic net asset value reporting for investors.

Mr. Schwarzmiller earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Washington.
