Stefan Matthaei

Mr. Matthaei focuses on tangible performance improvements in operations, spanning all aspects along the value chain including inventory, productivity, quality, customer satisfaction, make-or-buy, purchase/sales negotiations, people and automation, all driven with a clear focus on top- and bottom-line impact. Given his mergers and acquisitions related background, Mr. Matthaei has also identified, evaluated and advised clients on many organic opportunities.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Matthaei served as Chief Executive Officer of a specialized heat treatment supplier, driving strategic reorientation as the main automotive business was undergoing rapid changes. He also worked as Chief Restructuring Officer with a manufacturer of tow-bars (supplying all German OEMs), leading a low-cost country migration, plant consolidation and a complexity (inventory) reduction program.
Previously, Mr. Matthaei worked for Arthur D. Little with a focus on manufacturing/high-tech and automotive OEM/supplier industry, predominantly within Central Europe and some assignments in Asia/China. Earlier, he acted as the lead partner for PwC’s German Transaction Services Strategy Group, with additional assignments with the automotive and industry expert group. Before that, Mr. Matthaei spent about 10 years with Bain & Company and three years as an engineer with BMW.
Mr. Matthaei earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University in Hamburg and an MBA from INSEAD in France.
