Shankar Ranganathan is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Performance Improvement practice in Singapore. He has worked across a range of industries, including private equity, technology, telecommunications, industrial goods, consumer products and government across Southeast Asia, India, Australia, the Middle East and the U.S.

With more than 15 years of experience, Mr. Ranganathan has supported clients on growth and market entry strategy as well as large-scale transformation, covering top-line, profitability and CapEx. He has worked across Southeast Asia on a wide-range of topics. For instance, Mr. Ranganathan defined the market entry strategy into Vietnam for a European auto major and an Asian conglomerate. In Indonesia and Malaysia, he has worked with large telecom operators on multiple engagements, such growth strategy, operating model design and policy advocacy. Additionally, he helped transform the supply chain for an industrial goods manufacturer in Singapore. 

Mr. Ranganathan has worked extensively with investors, sovereign wealth funds and portfolio companies across the PE life cycle. He has led commercial and operational due diligence in over 30 instances. Furthermore, he has expertise in investment thesis definition, sector scan, 100-day plan, multi-year value creation plan and vendor due diligence. For instance, he led the customer and operational due diligence on a large pharma manufacturer in Indonesia and defined a multi-year value creation plan. He also defined the exit strategy and conducted vendor due diligence on a Singapore-based hardware maker for one of the largest global PE investors. 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Ranganathan spent 10 years at leading management consulting firms (Bain & Company and Kearney) in their PE, technology and telecom practices. Also, he has worked in the public sector focused on policy research and has been a social entrepreneur. In addition, he led the technology practice of the in-house consulting arm of the Tata Conglomerate. In this role, he advised the Group Chairman’s office and Group companies in telecom, agribusiness and consumer tech and products.  

Mr. Ranganathan earned a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Kansas and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
