Michael Larem

Mr. Larem has assisted troubled companies with a range of operational and financial restructuring needs. He specializes in cash forecasting/preservation, working capital management, business planning, distressed M&A and §363 sales, vendor and creditor negotiations, as well as general contingency planning.
Beyond debtor representation, Mr. Larem has experience in cross-border and international restructurings (including UK scheme and German S6) and fiduciary engagements (monitor/receiver/Chapter 11 trustee). He has worked with clients in various industries, including mining, exploration and production, retail, restaurants, manufacturing, broadcasting, chemicals, automotive, healthcare, services, and IT. Mr. Larem’s notable public cases include Alpha Natural Resources ($7.1 billion in liabilities), Cumulus Media ($2.3 billion in debt), Nyrstar (€2.5 billion in debt), Acosta ($3 billion in debt) and GPB Capital ($2 billion AUM).
Most recently, Mr. Larem was retained as Chief Restructuring Advisor to support the out-of-court restructuring of an online retailer headquartered in Europe and operating in the US, EMEA and Asia. His support helped the company achieve a successful out-of-court refinancing and recapitalization, management team transition and avoid a liquidating insolvency proceeding.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Larem worked with Accenture in its strategy practice, leading large-scale cost takeout and reorganization initiatives. He also briefly worked as a Partner for AlixPartners in Germany before returning to A&M.
Mr. Larem earned a bachelor's degree in finance and accounting from Frankfurt School of Finance and Management in Germany and an MBA from Emory University.
