Kallia Gavela is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Disputes and Investigations Services in Athens. She leads the Greek DI Services team. Dr. Gavela has a successful track record in the planning, staffing and management of high-calibre litigation, regulatory and internal investigation projects in the U.K., Germany, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Dr. Gavela has extensive experience in the financial services, life sciences and oil and gas industries, specializing in cross-border investigations of bribery and corruption (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)/U.K. Bribery act), fraud, employee misconduct, and EU GDPR investigations and Data Subject Access Requests in the context of employment litigation and disputes.

Dr. Gavela’s notable engagements include leading a multi-disciplinary team of 60 professionals who investigated and reviewed 2+ million documents spanning five jurisdictions in connection with an SEC/DoJ FCPA investigation for a global pharmaceutical and healthcare company, overseeing workstreams assessing information request responsiveness, legal privilege and data privacy; managing an anti-bribery investigative review into misconduct involving numerous bribery schemes over 13 jurisdictions for a global medical device company; and acting for a global banking client in connection with a cum/ex trade fraud investigation.

Dr. Gavela advises clients on the effective use of legal and AI technology to automate or make the investigative process more cost and time efficient, focusing on creating bespoke workflows, best practice analytics and big data technologies.

Prior to joining A&M, Dr. Gavela spent six years with EY’s UKI Forensic & Integrity Services (FIS), where she successfully directed global engagements and business development on global accounts. Previously, Dr. Gavela worked in various legal and managerial roles in the UK and Germany.

Dr. Gavela earned a bachelor’s degree in law (honours) from the National Kapodistrian University Athens and an LLM (summa cum laude) in medical law, professional negligence and malpractice and a PhD in Law (summa cum Laude) from Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg. A winner of the Institute for German, European and International Medical Law, Public Health Law and Bioethics (IMGB) prize, she is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (London Chapter). A native Greek speaker, she has near-native proficiency in English and German and is fluent in French.
