Alvarez & Marsal adds Specialist Situations M&A Specialist to Restructuring Team

London - Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has appointed Stuart Deacon as a Managing Director to spearhead its Special Situations M&A team in the Restructuring practice. Based in London, he will focus on helping UK businesses that are in distress secure their futures.

Mr. Deacon brings more than 20 years’ experience supporting underperforming businesses across a wide variety of sectors, including retail, consumer, construction and manufacturing. Throughout his career, he has worked with a range of companies, from SMEs to multinational corporates, to implement strategies aimed at protecting and enhancing value.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Deacon established and built the Special Situations M&A practices at both EY and BDO. His work has included leading the administration sale of Deltic Night Clubs, the UK’s prominent nightclub operator, which protected sites and jobs helping to ensure the company’s post-pandemic future. He also led the rescue consolidation of the Dave Whelan Sports Fitness leisure clubs into Frasers Group and supported on the carve-out of care operator The Huntercombe Group from Four Seasons Health Care Group.

Mark Firmin, Managing Director and Head of Restructuring (UK Regions) at A&M, said, “We welcome Stuart to our rapidly growing Restructuring team in London. Our UK Restructuring team now spans 30 Managing Directors across our London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds offices with the capability to implement complex, cross-border transactions and fully service local and regional markets. Stuart’s appointment serves as the next strategic step in advancing our boots-on-the-ground senior practitioners who help clients maximize value and drive change across the restructuring process.”

Mr. Deacon commented: “The coming months will be extremely challenging for businesses across the country. Government support is tapering off and the effects of labour shortages, supply chain disruption and inflation are beginning to hit balance sheets. A&M’s freedom from audit conflicts, legacy of operational excellence and bias towards action enables the firm to support companies through periods of distress and help achieve positive outcomes.”
