Alvarez & Marsal Appoints New Head of Financial Industry Advisory Services for the U.K.

London – 02 November 2020 - Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), has appointed Tom Johannessen as Managing Director and Head of A&M’s Financial Industry Advisory Services (FIAS) in the U.K., and will lead the division’s Performance Improvement offering across Europe. Mr. Johannessen will be based in London.

Mr. Johannessen brings more than 25 years of experience in financial services, with extensive expertise in bank transformation and restructuring, risk and regulatory advice and strategic resource planning. In addition, he has led numerous M&A transactions as Principal and Advisor.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Johannessen was Managing Partner at one of the Big Four, leading a Financial Industry Advisory practice. Other prominent positions he has held include Deputy CFO and Group Treasurer at Nordea Bank where he also was a board member at their subsidiary banks and Life & Pensions unit and was a voting member of the Risk Committee. Prior to joining Nordea, he was a member of Barclays Corporate Executive Committee, where he was responsible for global balance sheet management and credit risk transfer.

Mr. Johannessen will work closely with Alvarez & Marsal’s European Financial Industry Advisory Services teams to build the practice across the UK and Europe. The team has expertise in all areas of financial services, including banks, asset management, wealth, fintech, payments and insurance.
