Paul Saftig is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Global Transaction Advisory Group in Chicago. With 13 years of transaction experience, he provides buy- and sell-side financial due diligence services for private equity firms and strategic buyers. 

Mr. Saftig provides buy-side services focusing on quality of earnings, quality of assets and working capital requirements, as well as considering off-balance sheet exposures and general knowledge of companies’ operations and finance functions. On the sell-side, he prepares companies for the sale process, supporting management teams, and developing diligence reports to maximize value at every point in the transaction lifecycle. Mr. Saftig also has significant experience with carve-out and cross-border transactions. 

Additionally, Mr. Saftig identifies key business drivers and trends to determine earnings sustainability and growth potential of acquisition targets. He ensures that acquisition and financing agreements reflect the proper deal structure and link with financial due diligence findings. 

Mr. Saftig has experience working with clients in various industries, notably the building products, manufacturing and distribution, industrials, consumer products, retail, business and professional services, automotive, food and beverage, among others. He has coordinated and led over 250 buy and sell-side financial due diligence engagements. 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Saftig was a Senior Associate with the Assurance practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers. He worked with private and public clients to assess key performance indicators, analyze financial risk, evaluate internal controls for improvement and provide audit reports.

Mr. Saftig earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Iowa. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Illinois.
