Doris Stein is a Managing Director in Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare Industry Group in Washington, D.C.

With 30 years of consulting and healthcare industry experience, Ms. Stein is an industry leader in delivery system innovation and has led strategic market expansion planning and execution. She brings extensive experience in all aspects of healthcare engagement, including consumer engagement, performance improvement, technology enablement, provider operations, and government programs including Medicaid and Medicare.

Ms. Stein’s clients have included multi-market BCBS plans, integrated health systems, specialty organizations (behavioral health, dental, vision, and radiology benefit management), community hospitals, accountable care organizations, State Medicaid agencies, clinical and social service organizations, and federal employee organizations.

Ms. Stein’s executive management experience includes leading the implementation of a new Medicaid program for a large national integrated health plan; building an integrated physical and behavioral health plan from the ground up; building several accountable care organizations, one of which generated total savings of $28 million in its first year and had the third largest payment in the U.S.; and redesigning a state Medicaid program. She developed strategies and implemented new processes and systems for a large national behavioral health organization; led a large BCBS plan for implementing an innovative Medicare program; and developed a primary care strategy for a large Midwest health plan.

Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Stein was a founding partner and Healthcare :ead for a global consulting firm. Prior to that, Ms. Stein worked in consulting at Ernst & Young and Navigant Consulting, Inc. Previously, she served as a Consumer Engagement Leader at WellPoint/Lumenos.

Ms. Stein earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and operations research from Virginia Tech. She is a founding board member of the national advocacy organization Families Fighting Flu, and a member of Women Business Leaders in US Healthcare (WBL).
