Stephanie Doughty
Ms. Doughty is a nationally recognized authority on R&D tax credits and government incentive strategy. With more than 20 years of experience, she has built and led high-performing R&D practices serving companies ranging from venture-backed technology startups to Fortune 500 public enterprises.
Ms. Doughty is widely regarded as a technical expert in federal and state R&D credits, with deep specialization in government contracting and the complex substantiation requirements unique to that sector. She has successfully guided clients through examinations, defended claims under evolving Internal Revenue Service (IRS) scrutiny, and helped organizations recover significantly overpaid taxes.
Ms. Doughty’s expertise extends beyond credit calculation. She advises clients on the intersection of Section 174 research capitalization, international R&D structuring, transaction planning, and multijurisdictional credit usability. She brings a practical, defensible approach grounded in case law, regulatory guidance, and operational insight.
In addition to R&D credits, Ms. Doughty advises on a broad portfolio of incentive strategies, including negotiated state and local incentives, site selection and location strategy, Work Opportunity Tax Credit, cost segregation studies, export initiatives, and international R&D regimes such as Canada’s Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax incentive program and the UK’s HM Revenue & Customs credits. She has also led the development of proprietary technology platforms designed to modernize and scale credit documentation, audit defense, and incentive compliance processes.
