Mikhail Krapivin is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring in Dubai. He brings more than 20 years of experience in operational restructuring, crisis/risk management, distressed divestments, and conflict resolution.

Mr. Krapivin leads a team of operational and financial restructuring professionals, crisis managers, investigators, and negotiators who help clients in crises including distress and default; divestments and market exits due to external shocks, underperformance and trust loss; incidents threatening integrity, sustainability and business reputation; and corporate conflicts. The team advises clients on risks (financial, operational, regulatory, reputational) both inside and outside their organizations and offers risk insights, mitigation strategies, and incident responses. Mr. Krapivin helps clients improve their enterprise risk management, and his team often operates as an outsourced risk management function.

Recently, Mr. Krapivin served as Chief Restructuring Officer in Russia for a global premium alcohol brand. He led an A&M team focused on restructuring and wind-down operations and managed the operational restructuring, liability and liquidity management and risk mitigation workstreams. Mr. Krapivin’s other recent engagements include advising a distressed retailer on restructuring debt to multiple creditors and helping an international bank recover several multimillion-dollar non-performing loans in the CIS countries, Europe and the Americas.

Previously, Mr. Krapivin helped a Central Asian venture fund exit distressed investments in the UAE, the UK and Russia amid a corporate conflict; assisted a global trader with divesting from a mining project in a CIS country in a situation involving allegations of managerial fraud and underperformance; and advised a sovereign wealth fund on developing an integrated risk management system for its portfolio companies.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Krapivin headed his own crisis and conflict management firm. Previously, he worked at two global investigative practices and practiced law at Baker & McKenzie.

Mr. Krapivin earned an MBA from the TRIUM Program (LSE, HEC, NYU) and masters’ degrees in behavioural economics from LSE, in public policy from the University of Chicago, and in international law from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. A graduate of the Harvard Program on Negotiation, he is accredited as a mediator by CEDR. Mr. Krapivin is fluent in English and Russian.
