Martin Winter

Mr. Winter’s notable engagements include aiding HealthSouth in its complex out-of-court restructuring following discovery of massive financial fraud. He led direct settlement negotiations for HealthSouth with the U.S. Department of Justice - Civil Frauds Division and settlement negotiations with the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and HHS-OIG. Mr. Winter served as the reimbursement CFO, led major operating initiatives in outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation, and directed the sale of the Coral Gables (FL) Hospital to the Baptist System.
Martin Winter: Trends in acquisitions of physician practices
Previously, Mr. Winter represented a major creditor in the financial restructuring of an owner/operator of skilled nursing facilities that was facing financial and operational challenges. Mr. Winter also advised management and the board of a physician practice management business on operations and negotiations with bank lenders and served as adviser to a major academic medical center that was reorganizing its clinical practice structure.
Mr. Winter successfully advised a rapidly growing anesthesia management company on structuring financial operations and reports and re-basing its billing model in anticipation of seeking growth capital. He also advised a major unsecured creditor on financial restructuring options in connection with the bankruptcy of a nursing home client and led a team that provided interim management and advisory services to a long-established not-for-profit community-based hospital in Los Angeles that was refocusing its business to address significant challenges.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Winter was Principal and Senior executive with a major private investor in companies subject to financial distress
Mr. Winter earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He served on the board and chaired the Audit Committee of American Independence Corp., a NASDAQ-listed publicly traded health insurance company.
