Managed Long Term Services and Supports (MLTSS)
Coordinating Care and Services in a Person-Centered Way for Medicaid’s Most Complex Beneficiaries
Managed Long-Term Services and Supports refers to delivery of long-term care or long-term services and supports (LTSS) to Medicaid beneficiaries who are elderly or disabled through a managed care (as opposed to fee-for-service) system. People with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD), behavioral health (BH) conditions, or other complex needs, are often carved out from receiving Medicaid managed care. In a time of fiscal constraints and budget uncertainty, however, many states are reassessing service delivery models and care coordination for I/DD and BH services that promote greater integration within Medicaid and human service programs. Furthermore, due to the complex choreography required across delivery systems, this population stands to benefit the most from an integrated approach to care delivery. A&M provides the support that states need to implement MLTSS with I/DD and BH populations through a person-centered framework that is well aligned with stakeholder values.
