Hong Kong – Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has bolstered its Asia restructuring practice with the appointment of Ron Thompson as Managing Director and Head of Restructuring in Asia and will be based in Hong Kong. This appointment illustrates A&M’s commitment to driving transformation and creating value for clients across the region.

Mr. Thompson, who will focus on China, has more than 20 years of experience working on complex restructuring issues in the Asian market. He has significant expertise acting in the capacity as a creditor, investor and advisor related with court restructurings and liquidations as well as out of court processes or government influenced restructurings. Additionally, he has served as an investor in sourcing, valuing, acquiring and managing non-performing loan (NPL) portfolios along with managing the sale process of individual credits as well as NPL portfolios. Mr. Thompson has worked in multiple industries including fast moving consumer goods, power generation, metals and mining, construction, manufacturing, telecom and technology and financial institutions.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Thompson served as Chief Credit Officer for Standard Chartered Bank in China. While at Standard Chartered Bank, he also headed the bank’s workout team in Taiwan and worked in the Mezzanine and Alternative Solutions Team for the Principle Finance Group. Previously, Mr. Thompson worked in corporate finance at Bear Stearns and Bank of China International and oversaw Clearwater Capital’s China business.

Mr. Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree Magna Cum Laude from Colby College and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He is fluent in Mandarin.
