Alvarez & Marsal Expands its Asia Forensic Technology Team
Hong Kong – 17 August, 2022 – Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) further strengthens its pan-Asian Forensic Technology practice and eDiscovery team with the appointment of Benson Mak as a Senior Director. Mr. Mak’s hire marks the next phase of strategic growth of A&M’s pan-Asian Forensic Technology practice following the recent appointments of Daniel Tay in Singapore and Jay Chong in Hong Kong.
Based in Hong Kong and reporting to Managing Director and Asia Head of Forensic Technology services Davin Teo, Mr. Mak will focus on growing A&M’s forensic technology, eDiscovery and cybersecurity offerings across multiple Asian markets.
Mr. Mak joins A&M after five years at law firm Baker McKenzie where he was, most recently, Associate Regional Director, APAC, Global eDiscovery & Data Advisory. In this role, he was responsible for building and growing the advisory practice across the whole Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. A specialist in cross-border forensic investigations, Mr. Mak has managed eDiscovery assignments across APAC, UK and US jurisdictions. Prior to his last role, he was Consultant (eDiscovery), Legal Technologies, at Kroll OnTrack. He is a Certified eDiscovery Specialist (CEDS).
“As data security and cybersecurity requirements tighten around the region, we see a significant rise in the number of domestic and cross-border investigations and disputes requiring forensic technology. Demand for eDiscovery is particularly high in the technology sector in the Greater Bay Area, stemming from companies involved in cross-border disputes in mainland China, and in insolvency cases across the region in which we collaborate with A&M’s Restructuring & Turnaround team,” said Mr. Teo.
“Seventy-five percent of A&M’s forensic technology assignments are repeat business. Client feedback highlighted the quality of our services and speed of response as the key drivers of value and change. Benson’s unique skillset aligns with our operational focus while his extensive legal expertise provides a competitive edge in the market,” he added.
“A&M is well positioned to address the growing demand for forensic technology and advisory services,” said Mr. Mak. “Davin’s team is known for helping clients solve the complex problems associated with the region’s largest investigations and eDiscovery cases.”
