Chicago – Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) announces the addition of Robert J. Milan as a Managing Director in the firm’s Disputes and Investigations practice. In his role, Mr. Milan will lead complex global forensic investigations in the areas of anti-corruption, corporate fraud and data breach response.
As a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, a former Cook County Illinois prosecutor, and an experienced senior executive in the corporate risk management sector, Mr. Milan advises clients on investigations, data breach response, data recovery, e-discovery, litigation support, and forensic accounting.
"Bob’s wealth of investigative knowledge and experience fits perfectly with A&M’s lines of business and enhances our offerings to global clients,” said Bryan Ruez, Managing Director and Global Leader of Alvarez & Marsal Disputes and Investigations. “Bob’s ability to uncover and solve complex and sophisticated fraud schemes will position him as a great source of knowledge, a subject matter expert and a trusted partner for our clients.”
Mr. Milan was most recently a Managing Director in the Chicago office of Kroll. He has also held roles with Stroz Friedberg, LLC and Navigant Consulting. He entered the private sector after serving more than 20 years as a criminal prosecutor at both the state and federal level.
As a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Mr. Milan worked in the Criminal Division where he prosecuted drug trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, and firearms offenses as well as public corruption and other white-collar crimes.
In his position as First Assistant State’s Attorney of Cook County from 2003-2008, Mr. Milan supervised over 900 assistant state’s attorneys, 150 investigators, and several-hundred support staff. During his time in that role, he also led multiple complex, long-term investigations for some of Chicago’s most notorious crimes. Mr. Milan joined the Cook County State’s Attorney Office in the Felony Trial Division and subsequently served as Supervisor of Felony Review.
Mr. Milan earned his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, and his bachelor’s degree in political science from Loyola University. In addition to serving as an Adjunct Professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Mr. Milan has delivered instructional sessions for the Illinois State Appellate Prosecutor’s Office and the National District Attorneys Association.
Outside of his work at A&M, Mr. Milan serves as the Special State’s Attorney of Cook County, tasked to oversee the prosecutions of more than 25 individuals previously convicted of murder. This assignment resulted from allegedly faulty investigations conducted by former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge and detectives who reported to Mr. Burge.
