Shivangi Jha is a Manager with Alvarez & Marsal’s Business Transaction Services practice in Mumbai, India. She earned a bachelor’s degree in technology from the National Institute of Technology Allahabad and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta.
In the following Q&A, Shivangi shares how collaboration and autonomy have shaped her career, what drew her to A&M’s culture, and the ways her team has supported her.
Why Consulting at A&M?
What drew you to intern at A&M and what inspired your decision to return full-time?
I’ve always been drawn to consulting for its mix of breadth and depth in subjects. Out of the consulting firms, A&M specifically stood out to me for the entrepreneurial spirit, the mantra of “like what you do and who you do it with,” and the chance to be part of the firm’s growth journey.
During my internship, these reasons came to life. My project team was supportive and there was a strong sense of trust, which was clear in the preparation for my final presentation. The day before, both my senior leaders took time to help refine my deck and script. On the day itself, although the invite was only sent to the director, every member of my team joined virtually. Seeing them make time in their busy schedules to support me left a lasting impression and gave me the confidence I needed.

How would you describe the culture of your local office or team?
From day one at A&M, I felt that my voice was heard. The culture is highly collaborative, so everyone pitches in to get the work done, and it’s rewarding to see my suggestions incorporated into client deliverables. I also deeply appreciate the autonomy I am given.
Colleagues go out of their way to help with things beyond the job, like figuring out housing or getting familiar with the daily commute. Those small but meaningful gestures really reflect the supportive environment A&M fosters.

How does A&M’s core value of Fun resonate with you and how have you seen it reflected in your work or team culture?
My fondest memories are the entire team sharing dinner together during due diligence weeks and the daily foosball and table tennis sessions after lunch.
Beyond Consulting, Just for Fun
What’s one thing on your bucket list for the next five years?
From August to December last year, I traveled across Europe, including boating at the Rhine Falls, exploring Vienna’s Christmas markets, celebrating Oktoberfest in Germany and hiking Cinque Terre. That experience sparked a love of travel, and over the next five years, I hope to explore South Africa and South America to experience the culture, natural beauty, and adventure.
