Van Lai is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Hong Kong, China. He brings more than 20 years of experience in corporate tax advisory and compliance, with a focus on cross-border and Asia–Pacific regional tax matters. Mr. Lai’s primary areas of concentration include tax planning and structuring for cross-border investments, M&A, tax treaty applications, tax controversy and dispute resolution, and IPO-related tax matters.

Mr. Lai has worked with clients across a wide range of industries, including hospitality, pharmaceuticals, real estate and construction, technology and telecommunications, trading and retail, manufacturing, logistics, e-commerce, financial services, and digital asset businesses. He also specializes in providing personal and business tax advice to support private/family enterprises and their owners. 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Lai served as a Director and International Tax Lead with Tricor Services Limited (Vistra Group). He also previously worked with EY and PwC in Hong Kong SAR, China. 

Mr. Lai earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from the City University of Hong Kong. He is a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), a member and a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) of the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong, and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
