Based in the Middle East for over a decade, Mr. Al-Basri’s core expertise is advising on financial services M&A transactions as a financial due diligence advisor for banks, insurance companies, asset managers, sovereign wealth funds, private equity firms, fintech companies, and family offices. Mr. Al-Basri also leads integrated due diligence engagements that include a combination of financial, commercial, operational, technical, information technology, digital, and tax due diligence workstreams.
Mr. Al-Basri has advised eight of the top 10 banks in the Middle East on the region’s most high-profile transactions. He has helped shape the regional banking landscape, advising on landmark transactions including the merger of First Abu Dhabi Bank (the United Arab Emirates’ largest bank), the merger of Saudi National Bank (the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s largest bank), as well as other mergers which resulted in the creation of national champions such as ADCB and the Saudi Awwal Bank. In addition, Mr. Al-Basri has led cross-border acquisitions for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) banks investing in Turkey, North Africa, and Central Asia.
Outside of banking, Mr. Al-Basri has also advised on the majority of insurance M&A transactions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia over the past five years, as well as numerous fintech acquisitions across the Middle East. Mr. Al-Basri has advised on over 120 transactions and projects, including engagements for pre-acquisition financial due diligence, vendor financial due diligence, integrated due diligence, reporting accountant roles for capital markets transactions, single-point-of-access support from an accounting/financial perspective, and other transaction advisory services.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Al-Basri worked at KPMG Middle East, serving most notably as a Partner in the Transaction Services practice. Prior to this, Mr. Al-Basri spent over a decade at Deloitte Middle East, advising on financial institutions group M&A transactions. He started his career with BDO in the UK.
Mr. Al-Basri earned an LLB in law (honors) from the University of Nottingham. He is also qualified as an Associate Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
