Tim Sumner

Mr. Sumner specializes in advising clients and leading teams in finance function M&A across all stages of the deal life cycle. His expertise lies in the design and implementation of optimized finance function operating models considering people, processes, and technology.
With more than 25 years of private equity finance experience, Mr. Sumner has played a pivotal role in numerous successful M&A deals, leading teams in evaluating and integrating diverse business units, streamlining operations, and achieving synergies. His deep understanding of financial and operational processes enables him to make significant contributions to the growth and success of the companies he has served.
Mr. Sumner’s notable assignments include leading the parent Integration Management Office (IMO) of a $10 billion cross-border media merger, leading the separation of the finance function of a wealth management business with a complex perimeter and deep entanglement and advising numerous private equity clients in M&A activity across various industries.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Sumner spent two years with KPMG’s M&A Strategy team in San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Mr. Sumner spent 14 years as a Managing Director of an Australasian mid-market private equity fund investing across Southeast Asian geographies, often assuming CFO roles to lead post-acquisition implementation to streamline operations, tuck-in integrations, and pre-listing initiatives. Mr. Sumner has taken Board of Director roles and been a member of the audit and risk committees.
Mr. Sumner earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and a postgraduate diploma in accounting from the University of Otago. He is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
