In addition to leading A&M’s U.S. Real Estate practice, he is involved in supporting valuation engagements elsewhere in the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East.
With more than 30 years of experience in real estate, Mr. Kurtz’s expertise spans all major property types, including office, retail, multifamily, industrial, hospitality, student housing, historic property, medical, hospital, and development land. He excels in providing insights into the complexities of the capital stack, helping clients optimize their capital structures and enhance their investment returns. His extensive knowledge of debt instruments, including commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) and other forms of real estate debt, also allows him to offer comprehensive advice on financing strategies and risk management.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Kurtz served as a Principal and Leader of the Real Estate team in BDO’s Valuation & Capital Market Analysis practice. Mr. Kurtz is experienced in developing policies and procedures that streamline the real estate valuation process for asset managers, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. He understands the importance of key metrics for both limited partners and general partners.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Kurtz has focused on providing clients with the analysis and insights they need to critique strategic investment alternatives. His client base includes some of the nation’s largest banks, insurance companies, real estate investment trusts, developers, private equity firms, real estate holding companies, hedge funds, and opportunistic funds.
Mr. Kurtz earned a bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University, Pennsylvania. Not only is he a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in numerous states, but Mr. Kurtz holds several prestigious professional designations and memberships, including the CRE® designation from the Counselors of Real Estate, MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute, and chartered membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
