Stephen Moore is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal in Toronto.

Mr. Moore has acted as investor, operator and lender, as well as advisor, in a number of high-profile restructurings and brings over 18 years of experience serving public and private corporations and their stakeholders.

Mr. Moore specializes in helping Boards and management teams to effect strategic operational and financial restructurings and helping businesses to maximize stakeholder value in stressed, distressed and insolvency situations.

Previously, Mr. Moore led the Canadian arm of Hilco Capital U.K., the London-based distressed investment firm. As principal, Mr. Moore led Tilley Endurables, Canada’s iconic headwear brand, through the full deal cycle, including purchase, ABL refinancing and disposal transactions. In this role he was also responsible for leading management through liquidity enhancement, performance improvement and revenue growth processes.

Mr. Moore advised the Board and management of a national construction services business on a performance improvement project, which resulted in substantial liquidity and profitability gains, ensuring a successful operational turnaround. He also advised a large contract manufacturer on treasury and operational improvements to extend the liquidity runway and achieve a successful going concern sale transaction.

Mr. Moore has conducted numerous independent business reviews and monitoring engagements, assisting secured creditors on the review of strategic plans, financial projections and debt capacity/restructuring alternatives. Notably, he advised a large lending syndicate to a national insurance services provider on the successful renegotiation of its credit facilities and inter-creditor arrangements with its sponsor and mezzanine lender.

Mr. Moore has also acted in court-appointed Monitor roles in the cross-border CCAA proceedings of the biotech firm Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and retailer InterTAN Canada Ltd. (The Source / Circuit City).

Mr. Moore earned a first class honours bachelor’s degree in international management from the University of Bath, U.K. He is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accounts of England & Wales (FCA), a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP) and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT).

Mr. Moore is a Canadian and British citizen, is fluent in French and has a basic understanding of Spanish.
