Stefan Rotaru is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Global Restructuring & Turnaround in London. He advises stakeholders of stressed and distressed businesses and specializes in business plan reviews, financial modeling, short-term cash-flow reviews, appraisal of restructuring options, and implementation of restructuring transactions.

With over 15 years of restructuring experience, Mr. Rotaru has worked with clients across a wide range of industries and geographies, including manufacturing, agribusiness, automotive, transportation and logistics, IT, media, oil and gas, financial services, construction, and utilities across Europe.

Mr. Rotaru’s notable assignments include advising the lenders of a distressed U.K. transportation and logistics company through shareholder restructuring and injection of new capital, leading the independent business reviews of a Tier 1 pan-European car rental business and a global trust services and wealth management service provider, and assisting the lenders to a distressed Italian life insurance business on an exit through M&A.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Rotaru spent nine years with PwC and KPMG in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) where he served as Director. He advised the senior lenders of a poultry producer during a significant investment stage, resulting in further financing of circa £40 million followed by at-par refinancing of £100+ million within 18 months. He counseled the senior lenders of an Italian manufacturing group on the carve-out of profitable operations in preparation of an in-court restructuring process. He also led crisis management initiatives, including serving as Chief Risk Officer of a distressed online media group. He advised the senior lenders of a private equity-owned e-commerce platform with high rates of growth at the detriment of profitability and liquidity by assessing additional funding requirements and negotiating a stepped exit plan. He took part in the development of an in-court restructuring plan for the largest electricity and thermal energy producer in CEE. He also supported buy-side and sell-side assistance for corporate non-performing loans transactions (both portfolios and large single-ticket transactions).

Mr. Rotaru earned a master’s degree in business management from the Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest. He is a fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants and a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants with an advanced diploma in management accounting.
