Paul Boyle is a Senior Advisor with Alvarez & Marsal. He is a chartered accountant with 35 years' experience in commercial roles in a variety of industries and in leadership roles in regulatory organisations.
Mr. Boyle is President of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (UK & Ireland) and Chairman of the whistleblowing charity, Public Concern at Work. He was awarded an OBE in the 2010 New Years' Honours list.
Mr. Boyle retired from Aviva plc, a global systemically important insurer, in May 2017, having been Chief Internal Auditor since 2010 and a member of the Group Executive Committee. At Aviva he led a significant improvement in the effectiveness of the internal audit function, and co-sponsored a group-wide initiative to improve the effectiveness of the internal control framework.
Mr. Boyle was the first Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council, the UK's regulator with responsibility for the corporate governance code, accounting, auditing and actuarial standards and oversight of the accounting and actuarial professions. He led the establishment of a new international regulatory organisation (the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators) and testified at the UK Treasury Select Committee, the Senate Banking Committee and the European Parliament.
He was Chief Operating Officer at the Financial Services Authority with responsibility for finance, IT, HR and facilities management. Mr. Boyle made a significant contribution to the integration of the 10 predecessor organisations into a unified organisation and to improving the cost-effectiveness of the FSA's activities.
He was a senior executive at Cadbury Schweppes, a fast moving consumer goods manufacturer, having served as Group Financial Controller and as a Director of Cadbury Ltd in Bournville with responsibility for finance, IT, procurement and cocoa buying. Mr. Boyle also worked in the joint venture between Cadbury Schweppes and Coca-Cola.
He was an auditor and consultant with Coopers & Lybrand with experience of working in Scotland, London, New York and Istanbul.
Mr. Boyle graduated with a degree in accountancy (first class) from the University of Glasgow and was an Honorary Professor at the University from 2010 – 2014. He was a member of the Committee on Effective Internal Audit in the Financial Services sector and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
