Mr. Konowalchuk has acted for various businesses in financial distress in both the private and public sectors and has worked on engagements involving cross-border operations, including concurrent Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) and Chapter 11 / Chapter 15 filings.
He has also served as a court-appointed Monitor in Canada under the CCAA, as well as court-appointed receiverships, independent business reviews, viability assessments and other formal insolvency engagements, with particular experience and expertise in the oil and gas industry (including E&P, midstream and oilfield services), real estate and property development, time-share resort industry, manufacturing and agricultural sector.
Notable clients include Canadian Schedule A banks, major U.S. lenders and private equity lenders, asset-based lenders, major Canadian law firms, various Canadian and U.S. public and private companies.
His recent engagements include acting as: a court-appointed Monitor (CCAA) for the Purdy Group of Companies, a property development and resort company in Alberta and British Columbia; a financial advisor for the lending syndicate of Lone Pine Resources which recently filed and exited from CCAA; and an advisor to a Schedule A Bank of an oil and gas company and a construction firm in Alberta.
Additional recent roles include acting as: a financial advisor for the lending syndicate of a public junior oil and gas producer with properties in Alberta and Saskatchewan; and a court-appointed receiver-manager for Alston Energy and Atikwa Resources (upstream E&P companies), Impact 2000 (a seismic services company) and Dowland Contracting (a construction firm that provides commercial, industrial, institutional and design-build projects).
Mr. Konowalchuk earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Manitoba and a diploma in business administration from Red River College in Winnipeg. He is also a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional and a Canadian Trustee in Bankruptcy.
He speaks on restructuring and insolvency related matters for the Canadian Bar Association, is a member of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals and the Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
