Mr. Konowalchuk has acted for businesses in financial distress in the private and public sectors and has worked on engagements involving cross-border operations, including concurrent Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) and Chapter 11 / Chapter 15 filings.
He has served in a formal capacity as a court-appointed Monitor in Canada under the CCAA, as well as court-appointed receiverships, and has been engaged on multiple independent business reviews and viability assessments, with experience in the oil and gas (including exploration and production (E&P), midstream and oilfield services), real estate and property development, timeshare resort and manufacturing industries.
Notable clients include Canadian Schedule A banks, U.S. lenders and private equity lenders, asset-based lenders, Canadian law firms, and Canadian and U.S. public and private companies.
His recent engagements include acting as financial adviser to Parallel Energy Trust, where he assisted in contingency planning and preparation of filing a CCAA and Chapter 11. He also served as financial adviser to four separate lending syndicates for recent public junior and intermediate oil and gas producers located in Western Canada and the U.S. Additionally, he advised Lone Pine Resources Ltd., which filed for creditor protection under the CCAA, and served as financial adviser to the lending syndicate on an infrastructure and construction company and to a lending syndicate of credit unions for a luxury apartment and townhome property in Alberta.
Additional recent roles include acting as court-appointed receiver and manager of Bumper Development Corporation Ltd., Brevia Energy Inc., Alston Energy Inc., Atikwa Resources Inc. and Dowland Contracting Ltd.
Mr. Konowalchuk earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Manitoba and a diploma in business administration from Red River College in Winnipeg. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (Chartered Accountant), Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, and Canadian Licensed Insolvency Trustee. He speaks on restructuring and insolvency related matters for the Canadian Bar Association, and is a member of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals and the Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
