Matt Atkinson
With more than 25 years of restructuring experience, Mr. Atkinson has worked in practice, government, and the education sector. He specializes in corporate finance, M&A, financial restructuring, asset realization, and debt advisory. Mr. Atkinson’s primary area of concentration is the education sector, particularly universities.
Mr. Atkinson’s notable assignments include acting as Chief Financial Officer at two universities (most recently the University of Nottingham) and leading restructuring activities at the UK Department for Education. Mr. Atkinson has worked with clients across various industries, including automotive, retail, and construction.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Atkinson spent six years with the UK Department for Education, where he most recently served as Director of Provider Market Oversight with responsibility for £62 billion of public spending. During his time with the Department for Education, Mr. Atkinson set up and led the transactions unit, which was responsible for funding over 40 mergers within the further education sector.
Mr. Atkinson earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental economics from the University of York. He is a Chartered Accountant (CA), qualified insolvency practitioner, and an accredited member of the Institute for Turnaround (IFT).
