Mark Griffiths

Mr. Griffiths brings over 20 years of experience in the mining, energy, and commodities trading sectors. He specializes in advising on global indirect taxes and duties, with a focus on international trade.
Mr. Griffiths has broad experience advising on global energy and commodity transactions and product flows, extending to audit management, dispute resolution, and the implementation of innovative technology solutions. He has also advised on multiple M&A transactions, covering due diligence and post-transaction integration within the energy and commodities sectors.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Griffiths spent 12 years with Mercuria Energy Trading, one of the world’s leading independent energy and commodity trading companies, where he was Global Head of Indirect Tax. In this role, he was responsible for all aspects of indirect taxes across the global group, including providing advice and transactional support to the global trading business and supporting the establishment of new businesses and trading desks globally.
Mr. Griffiths has contributed to various policy initiatives and regulatory developments. Most notably, he supported the drafting of customs and VAT regulations for marine fuel bunkering in jurisdictions such as South Africa and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Previously, Mr. Griffiths held similar roles within the commodities business at J.P. Morgan for six years, and at BHP for two years. He started his career at Arthur Andersen in the U.K.
Mr. Griffiths earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and management from Cardiff University.
