Mr. Masterson specializes in consulting to and operating in the consumer-packaged goods (CPG) and retail industry. He has worked across a range of categories, including pet care, food and beverages, beauty, nicotine, tissue products, fresh fruit, wellness, consumer health, retail pharmacy, veterinary services, and baby care.
Notably, Mr. Masterson has been working with a consumer services group to redesign its global and business unit structures, creating a leaner, more focused, faster-growing group and adding around $150 million in incremental earnings. Prior to this, he led the redesign of a global CPG group, which led to the reallocation of approximately 15% of the cost base into both incremental profit and new differentiating capabilities. During a carve-out, he worked with a CPG group to design its new net revenue management, marketing, and R&D capabilities.
Additionally, Mr. Masterson has supported numerous projects focused on generating value from commercial excellence. He was involved in the design and implementation of a transformation program for a global CPG group, focused on a combination of cost reduction, marketing effectiveness improvement, and market portfolio strategy, which has to date created £500+ million in incremental profit. He supported four client engagements over a six-month period to develop and implement a marketing spend effectiveness program, which improved marketing ROI by nearly 30%. He also led five engagements—across the UK, Israel, and Russia—to implement a new net revenue management capability, generating an improvement in gross profit of nearly 7%.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Masterson served as Chief Operating Officer with Project Blu, a CPG startup focused on providing more sustainable pet accessories to the consumer and retail market. He started his career at Danone, where he worked in the out-of-home sales team.
