James Hooper

Mr. Hooper has worked with companies in various industries, including media, oil and gas, energy, engineering and construction, healthcare, property, leisure, telecommunications, manufacturing, childcare, hospitality, and government. He has a deep understanding of how to manage the interests of competing stakeholder groups through transformation and restructuring processes and has extensive experience in leading business reviews, developing and critiquing business and restructuring plans, and financial and operational restructuring.
Mr. Hooper recently advised the Ad Hoc Group of Lenders on a $3.4 billion debt restructuring of a HK-listed conglomerate in the leisure industry. Prior to that, he advised an HK-based commodity trading company on post restructuring operational and capital structure improvement initiatives. Mr. Hooper also developed and led the execution of an organization-wide cost reduction program for a private equity portfolio business in the media industry.
Previously, Mr. Hooper advised an Indonesian-based power project developer and equipment distributor on its debt refinancing and operational restructuring, including the development of a business plan and implementation of a cost reduction program. He also acted as interim CFO of the company.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hooper worked at a Big Four accounting firm in the Hong Kong SAR in their Transactions and Restructuring Group. Before moving to Asia, Mr. Hooper served on the Restructuring and Advisory team at a boutique advisory firm based in Australia.
Mr. Hooper earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Sydney. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Mr. Hooper is on the Board of the Turnaround Management Association of Hong Kong.
