Frederico Gebauer is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Disputes and Investigations in New York. He specializes in complex investigations, compliance assessments, monitorships, and corporate intelligence. His primary areas of concentration are investigations into asset misappropriation, financial statement fraud, corruption and bribery, insider trading, securities fraud, and accounting irregularities. He also advises multinational corporations on the design, implementation, and assessment of compliance programs, with particular focus on anti-bribery and corruption, sanctions, and anti-money laundering. 

With more than 30 years of experience in the US and Brazil, Mr. Gebauer helps law firms, corporates, private equity firms, nongovernmental organizations, high-net-worth individuals, and government agencies navigate and investigate complex and high-profile matters. He has advised on fraud, bribery, and corruption issues across four continents and a wide array of industries; provided business intelligence services; and served as an Integrity Monitor in the settlement of cases involving the distribution of illegal weapons in the state of New York.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Gebauer spent more than 10 years with EY in New York, where he most recently served as a Partner in EY’s Forensic & Integrity Services practice. Before that, he was a Partner with EY’s Fraud Investigations in São Paulo, Brazil where he oversaw country-wide investigations. He previously served as a Senior Managing Director with Kroll and led the company’s São Paulo office.

A 14-year veteran of the criminal justice system, Mr. Gebauer previously served in a dual role as General Counsel and Director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement, where he oversaw the development of multiagency initiatives, including programs and policies on immigration, firearms enforcement, emergency preparedness, family justice centers, and gun courts. Before that, he served as Special Counsel to Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on criminal justice matters. Mr. Gebauer began his career in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. For around eight years, he investigated and prosecuted cases involving conspiracy, homicide, firearms trafficking, narcotics sales, public corruption, and international financial fraud. Notably, Mr. Gebauer participated in a two-year investigation resulting in the indictment of a 50-defendant criminal organization. 

Mr. Gebauer earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University and a JD from Boston College Law School. He is fluent in English and Portuguese.
