Fred Buckman
Mr. Buckman has an extensive track record of leading organizations, from the C-suite to the front line, to rapidly deliver improvements through better strategy, project execution, and operations. This extensive experience comes from a variety of consulting and leadership roles in the metals and mining (copper, nickel, fertilizers, zinc, and metallurgical coal), electric and gas utilities, and manufacturing sectors.
Mr. Buckman has significant client-serving experience in developing and implementing strategies to maximize business performance, including analyzing business plans, developing cash-flow forecasts, reviewing financial statements, and managing capital projects and operating assets. Mr. Buckman’s notable experience includes helping a large, global natural resources company deliver advanced WorkFace Planning for shaft construction and a bankable feasibility study that led to board approval on a multibillion-dollar project. He also successfully helped a southwest U.S. multi-resource mine accelerate its schedule through advanced planning and execution of early surface works, and helped a southwest U.S. copper mine develop a bankable feasibility study.
Mr. Buckman brings extensive experience in helping natural resources companies deliver tangible EBIT improvements, such as: $20 million annualized EBIT delivered in three months at a remote copper smelter owned by a gold/copper producer; $25 million annualized EBIT delivered in four months at an underground copper mine through better mine planning and logistics improvements; and $100 million annualized EBIT delivered in six months at an open-pit met coal mine for a regional met coal producer. He has notably worked with BHP, Teck Resources Limited, Arizona Sonoran Copper Company, Dundee Precious Metals, BlueScope Steel, Savannah River Mission Completion, Glencore, Seabridge Gold, and South32.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Buckman was a Director with Partners in Performance, where he was Global Head of the Safety practice and North American Head of the Capital practice.
Mr. Buckman earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.
