Elan Ben-Avi
Mr. Ben-Avi has vast experience serving as Financial Advisor and Interim Manager to companies and investor constituents in multinational restructurings, both in and out of court. His career spans a wide variety of industries, including infrastructure, retail, consumer packaged goods, wellness, publishing, and business services. Most recently, Mr. Ben-Avi served as Chief Restructuring Officer of a Texas-based water company. His primary areas of focus are developing business turnaround plans and restructuring strategies, cash-flow forecasting and management, bankruptcy oversight, negotiating financings, and leading business and asset sales.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Ben-Avi served as Managing Director, Turnaround & Restructuring, at Ankura, where he was involved in restructurings on behalf of debtors, sponsors, and secured lenders. His roles at Ankura included Financial Advisor in an out-of-court restructuring of a US deepwater port and marine terminal, and Financial Advisor to the first lien lenders of a multinational B2B safety-shoe company, to the sponsor of a global consumer packaged goods company, and to Brooks Brothers and Payless ShoeSource in their respective Chapter 11 and Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act proceedings.
Before joining Ankura, Mr. Ben-Avi was a partner at a private equity firm. Previously, he served as Director, Restructuring, at Getzler Henrich, representing debtors, sponsors, and creditors in various sectors. Mr. Ben-Avi has also held leadership roles with retail and consumer packaged goods businesses, including as Chief Operating Officer and board member of a national fitness company, Interim CEO and Chairman of a national beauty retailer, Chairman of a global accessories brand, and Interim CEO of a personal care business.
Mr. Ben-Avi earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the State University of New York at Albany. He is a Certified Insolvency & Restructuring Advisor (expired) and a Certified Turnaround Professional (expired). Mr. Ben-Avi is Vice Chair of the audit committee for the NY City Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, and a member of the UJA-Federation of New York’s restructuring committee.
