David Smyth
Mr. Smyth’s experience includes advising on the taxation of financial services, banking, leasing, securitization, and structured finance transactions, as well as assisting companies operating in the International Financial Services Centre in Dublin. In addition, he has expertise in pharmaceuticals and life sciences, having worked with some of the largest multinational companies operating in these sectors. He has advised them on international tax planning; major corporate group restructuring; mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures; post-merger integration; and Pillar Two readiness.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Smyth spent 39 years with EY in Ireland, where—in addition to working with a wide variety of clients—he served as Ireland Tax Service Line Leader and as Ireland Tax & Law Quality Leader.
Mr. Smyth earned a bachelor’s degree in management from Trinity College Dublin. He is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland (FCA) and an Associate of the Irish Tax Institute (AITI). Mr. Smyth has lectured widely on taxation matters for the Irish Tax Institute and the Law Society of Ireland. He also co-authored Taxing Financial Transactions, published by the Irish Taxation Institute. He is a former member of the Irish Taoiseach’s Banking & Treasury Group, which advised the Irish government on policy matters relevant to the financial services industry in Ireland, and of the Consultative Committee of the Accountancy Bodies – Ireland (CCAB-I) Tax Committee South.
