Alicia Malone
With more than a decade of experience focused solely on Canadian indirect tax, Ms. Malone brings an in-depth and nuanced understanding of the law to her clients. She is known for her deep technical skills and ability to provide innovative solutions for complex issues.
Ms. Malone is a leading expert in the application of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) to financial institutions. She is relied on by clients in the banking, insurance, and investment industries to provide clear guidance and solutions on the complex rules surrounding financial services and selected listed financial institutions (SLFIs).
In addition to financial services, Ms. Malone has wide-ranging experience advising on all manner of indirect tax issues, including gaming, healthcare, and real estate investment. She also provides advisory, planning, structuring, and dispute resolution services and frequently represents clients though Canada Revenue Agency audits and objections.
Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Malone spent 11 years in the indirect tax departments of a large accounting firm and national law firms. She was notably a Senior Associate in the Indirect Tax group of KPMG Law.
Ms. Malone earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a double major in English from Carleton University and a JD from the University of Windsor. Ms. Malone is called to the bar in Ontario.
