David Coles is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring & Turnaround in New York. He has more than 25 years of financial restructuring experience and specializes in performance improvement and interim management for underperforming businesses.

Mr. Coles has deep experience working with executive teams in senior advisory and interim C-suite roles. His experience spans both public and private companies in multiple industries with a recent focus on consumer products, financial services and real estate.

Recently, Mr. Coles served as CEO of Campus Crest, a publicly traded REIT specializing in college student housing; as a Restructuring Advisor to M*Modal Inc., a provider of transcription services and ASR software; and as CFO of PHH Corp. (a public, residential mortgage originator and servicer and fleet management business), where he led the internal and external financial reporting, capital raising, rating agency and investor communications. Previously, as CFO of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., Mr. Coles was involved in the initial crisis management and liquidity generation phases.

In addition, Mr. Coles served as interim CFO/CRO with Leiner Health Products Inc., where he managed the operational reengineering and financial restructuring of this vitamin, mineral and supplement business. As an Adviser to the parent company, Mr. Coles led profitability improvement projects at three consumer businesses (Precor, West Bend and Florida Tile). He is a board member of Euro-Pro Holdings, Inc. a $1+ billion consumer products business he co-led during its financial and operational restructuring. From negative EBITDA in 2006, the business is generating industry leading levels of EBITDA today. 

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Coles worked with the restructuring group of a Big Five accounting and consulting firm in New York, having transferred from its U.K. practice.

Mr. Coles earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Wales Institute of Science & Technology in Cardiff, U.K. He passed the examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
