David Lewis
With over 30 years of leadership experience in public and private sectors, including as Executive Secretary of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and G20 Deputy, Mr. Lewis led the global watchdog and brought the combined expertise of governments around the world to bear on fighting money laundering, the financing of terrorism, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. He has led the development of global standards for governments, regulators, and regulated businesses, and he has overseen the evaluation of countries worldwide.
Mr. Lewis’s notable assignments include helping jurisdictions exit global and EU blacklists, advising banks on enterprise-wide risk assessments, preparing national authorities and boards of large financial institutions for international evaluations, conducting national threat and risk assessments, leading high-profile investigations, and supporting regulators and national police forces.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Lewis spent four years with Kroll’s Investigations, Diligence and Compliance practice as Global Head of Anti-Money Laundering Advisory in Paris. In this role, he led Kroll’s advice and support to government leaders, national authorities, and corporate boards on managing risk; meeting international standards; and navigating geoeconomic, political, and regulatory challenges.
Mr. Lewis earned a bachelor’s degree in cultural studies from the University of Portsmouth and a master’s degree in natural resource management from Cranfield University. He has been an honorary scholar at the University of Cambridge and an honorary lecturer at Cardiff University. Mr. Lewis was the first person to be voted financial crime fighter of the year by the Global Coalition to Fight Financial Crime. He received the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists’ Public Service Award for long-standing commitment to the anti-financial crime community. He is an honorary member of the World Compliance Association, an executive board member of Lawyers Without Borders, and a Senior Associate Fellow of the Centre for Finance and Security at the Royal United Services Institute.
