On 13 September 2022, Sean Holmes and Grant Sparks were appointed Joint and Several Receivers and Managers of Griffin Coal pursuant to the provisions contained in the Syndicated Facility Agreement, Intercreditor Deed and Security Deed giving rise to a security interest registered on the Personal Property Securities Register, in favour of the Security Trustee, acting on behalf of the Senior Beneficiaries.

On 13 September 2022, Liquidators were also appointed to Griffin Coal. The Liquidators are Glenn Livingstone and Scott Pascoe of WLP Restructuring. 
 

The coal mined from Griffin’s Ewington coal mine in Collie, Western Australia is supplied to the adjacent Bluewaters Power Station, South32, Iluka and Tronnox. The electricity generated from Bluewaters is critical to the South West Interconnected System.

Since their appointment, the Receivers and Managers have continued to operate Ewington coal mine.

The Receivers and Managers have secured funding from the State of Western Australia to enable continued operation of the mine through to 30 June 2026. This funding has also enabled the Receivers and Managers to improve the operations of the mine, including:

• Significant investment in new and existing fleet and infrastructure
• Introduction of improved mining technologies
• Increase in workforce size
• Increases in wages, salaries and rates of remuneration for employees and labour hire
• Increased deliveries to customers, and brought on two new customers
• Enhancements to safety

The Receivers and Managers are currently actively engaging with critical stakeholders to develop a restructuring plan for beyond 30 June 2026.
