Orest Konowalchuk is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Restructuring & Turnaround in Calgary. He leads the firm’s restructuring and related advisory initiatives.

Mr. Konowalchuk brings more than 15 years of experience in turnaround advisory and insolvency services. He has acted for businesses in financial distress in the private and public sectors and has worked on engagements involving cross-border operations, including concurrent Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) and Chapter 11/Chapter 15 filings. He has served in a formal capacity as a court-appointed monitor in Canada under the CCAA, as well as multiple court-appointed receiverships and bankruptcy mandates, and various informal mandates such as independent business reviews and viability assessment.

Mr. Konowalchuk has significant experience in the energy sector, including exploration and production, oilsands and oilfield services, commercial and residential real estate and property development, construction, manufacturing and agricultural industries. Mr. Konowalchuk’s notable clients include Canadian Schedule A banks, U.S. lenders, bondholders, private equity lenders, asset-based lenders, Canadian law firms, and Canadian and U.S. public and private companies.

Currently, Mr. Konowalchuk’s engagements include acting as the CCAA monitor for Morris Industries Ltd. and Northern Silica Corporation, as well as acting as the Proposal Trustee under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act for Greenfire Hangingstone Operating Corporation. Recently, he acted as Financial Advisor to certain lending syndicates respecting several confidential E&P companies located in Western Canada and was recently court-appointed as Receiver Manager of People Express Transportation Ltd., Ceana Development Sunridge Inc., Family Fitness Inc., Strategic Oil & Gas Ltd., LREIT 34 Holdings 34 Corporation, Voice Construction Ltd. and several other engagements in Canada.

Mr. Konowalchuk earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Manitoba and a diploma in business administration from Red River College. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, and Canadian Licensed Insolvency Trustee. He speaks on restructuring and insolvency related matters and is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals and the Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
