Richard Main is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in London. His areas of concentration are carve-out diligence, planning and execution, synergy/value creation plan (VCP) development, operational due diligence, and operational performance improvement, with expertise in supply chain functions.

With more than 10 years of professional services experience and five years of industry experience in supply chain functions, Mr. Main has supported numerous deal-related engagements, including supporting Unilever in the M&A space, having worked pre- and post-deal on Unilever’s divestments of tea, spreads, and ice cream businesses. He led the separation analysis and operating model design work, financial adjustments and one-off costs, transition services agreement development, implementation planning, and stranded cost mitigation. He has supported other clients with vendor assistance in a similar capacity, including Coty, Blackstone (Bourne Leisure), and GSK.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Main was a Director at PwC in London. As part of the Deals, Strategy and Operations team, he worked across the transaction landscape including on buy-sides, vendor assistance, carve-outs, mergers, and value creation projects. Prior to PwC, Mr. Main worked for Procter & Gamble across various roles, including Customer Service Manager, Supply and Demand Planning.

Previously, Mr. Main led the development of Wella Professionals’ VCP on their separation from Coty, working with management teams to develop further upsides and evidence savings in procurement, product portfolio optimization, and manufacturing footprint.

He also has experience in pre-deal buying and vendor-side diligence for private equity and corporate clients on assets including Galderma, Violife, Flora Food Group (previously Upfield), McCormick, Bakkavor, and The Travel Corporation. He has also supported clients with synergy diligence/development and cost optimization projects within the consumer, leisure, and retail industries, including Greene King, Apollo, Away Resorts, McCormick, and Mayborn Group.

Mr. Main earned a bachelor’s degree in management from The University of Manchester and a master’s degree in operations management from Alliance Manchester Business School at The University of Manchester.
