Rob Hawkes

Mr. Hawkes’s primary areas of focus include: tax-free spin-offs, organizations, reorganizations, and liquidations; taxable stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions; debt cancellations and modifications; partnership and S corporation acquisitions, dispositions, and structuring; tax attribute limitations and preservation; consolidated return regulations; and cross-border M&A provisions. Mr. Hawkes has worked with clients across various industries, including information technology, communication services, consumer products, financials, and industrials.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hawkes worked at Houlihan Lokey, where he most recently served as Director of Capital Markets Tax. In this role, he provided technical tax support for the Financial Advisory and Restructuring businesses. Before Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Hawkes was a Senior Director at RSM US, where he focused on corporate M&A tax. Mr. Hawkes spent the bulk of his career at KPMG, where he was a longstanding Principal in the New York City M&A Tax practice, serving as an industry lead in the technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT) sector and a national technical resource. Prior to KPMG, Mr. Hawkes worked as a reviewing attorney in the Internal Revenue Service Chief Counsel’s National Office in Washington D.C., a career law clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut, and a Senior Associate in a regional law firm.
Mr. Hawkes earned a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) from Harvard University and a J.D. (cum laude) from Cornell Law School. He is admitted to the bar in Florida and Connecticut, and to the U.S. District Courts for the Middle District of Florida and the District of Connecticut. He holds inactive Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Series 79, Series 63, and SIE investment banking credentials.
