Michael Pieper

Notably, Dr. Pieper has led strategy reviews and business model assessments for global banks. He designed and implemented cost transformation programs, including streamlining product portfolios, optimizing organizational structures and governance, end-to-end processes, automation, outsourcing, near-shoring, and digital solutions. He also has extensive experience in developing target operating models for risk and compliance functions. His expertise includes financial and non-financial risk management, including risk identification and assessment, advanced analytics and modeling, capital management, stress testing, control frameworks, and recovery planning.
Dr. Pieper has also delivered numerous projects focused on the development of AI use cases, advanced analytics, and big data platforms. He designed innovative target operating models and drove process digitization initiatives. In addition, he developed ESG strategies, integrating sustainability into bank and portfolio steering, as well as risk management processes. He led regulatory remediation and implementation programs, including Basel IV, Stress Testing, and BCBS 239 Risk Data Aggregation & Reporting, and he is experienced with expectations from the European Central Bank and the Single Supervisory Mechanism.
Prior to joining A&M, Dr. Pieper was a Partner with Roland Berger’s global financial services platform. Previously, he was a leader for Sustainable Finance and Non-Financial Risk with Deloitte in Germany. Before that, Dr. Pieper was part of McKinsey & Company’s global Risk Management practice as well as the Corporate and Investment Banking practice. He developed, implemented, and executed algorithmic trading strategies with an absolute-return hedge fund.
Dr. Pieper earned a master’s degree in physics and a PhD in quantitative finance from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. He is fluent in German and English.
