Rafael Carlos

His main sectors of expertise include agribusiness, real estate, retail, industrial, consumer goods and telecommunications. Mr. Carlos’ notable assignments include serving as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the restructuring and crisis management of a leading home appliances parts maker; CEO in the turnaround and performance improvement of a group of companies in alcohol production, bottling and distribution; Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) in the restructuring of a fashion retailer; CRO in the restructuring of a sugar and ethanol company, as well as CRO in the negotiation and management of a judicial recovery plan for a soy crushing business.
Mr. Carlos has served as a financial advisor in the restructuring of various retailers, real estate developers and construction companies owned by international private equity funds. He was a creditor advisor for sugar and ethanol and poultry processing companies, as well as led the operational turnaround of a leading mobile telecom operator, and the evaluation of investment opportunities in the auto parts, telecommunications, high-tech equipment and industrial sectors. Mr. Carlos has led strategic and organizational reviews for leading companies in Venezuela, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Carlos worked with Value Partners Consulting as an advisor in engagements related to operational, financial and strategic improvements, and in the evaluation of investment opportunities in various countries throughout Latin America. He began his career at Monitor Group, advising CEOs and shareholders in operational and commercial strategy definitions and market entry models. Mr. Carlos also worked as an investment analyst at Altima Partners, a New York based hedge-fund, overseeing equity markets in Latin America.
Mr. Carlos earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Telecommunications from UNICAMP - Universidade Estadual de Campinas - and a Master’s degree in Business Administration, with concentrations in Finance and Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to Portuguese, he is fluent in English and Spanish.
