Michael Zembillas
With more than 20 years of experience, Mr. Zembillas has worked extensively with management teams and other stakeholders in distressed business and workout situations. He specializes in advising large, complex companies on both in-court and out-of-court restructurings.
Mr. Zembillas engages with clients to address various financial and operational restructuring needs, specializing in company-side advisory. He works alongside management teams, sponsors, and boards to deliver solutions that preserve and maximize enterprise value and recoveries for all stakeholders. Further, he brings strategic insight and leadership to help stabilize operations and preserve liquidity in the most challenging of environments. Having worked with management teams and advisors in some of A&M’s largest, more complex restructurings over the past decade, Mr. Zembillas brings the experience and perspective needed to efficiently negotiate and drive resolution with lenders, creditors, and other stakeholders in distressed situations.
Mr. Zembillas has advised companies across multiple industries, with a particular focus on the energy, industrials, and chemicals sectors. Notably, Mr. Zembillas led an operational turnaround and financial restructuring for a multibillion-dollar international agricultural chemicals manufacturer and distributor, delivering EBITDA gains that unlocked access to new capital, allowing the company to refinance its capital structure and providing a pathway to maximize recoveries for creditors and preserve equity value. Other notable assignments include advising a multibillion-dollar global energy infrastructure company, a multibillion-dollar US power and utility service provider, and clients such as Talen Energy, Tronox Holdings, McDermott, and Weatherford International, among others.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Zembillas spent more than five years as a Senior Vice President with Mesirow Financial. He began his career with EY.
Mr. Zembillas earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida State University and an MBA in accounting and finance. He is an inactive Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
